What is Wado?
Wadoryu aka Wadokai is one of the major styles in 'modern' karate. 'Wa' means harmony and 'do' means road or way. So Wado is 'the way of harmony'.
As a name for a martial art it may sound a bit odd. Nevertheless, harmony is deeply rooted into Wado. Wado emphasizes 'moving along', rather then 'moving against'. While in most martial arts it is said that 'a good attack is the best defence', it could be argued that Wado follows the opposite: 'a good defence is the best attack'.

Who pays for this site?
For now the sitemanager, Igor Asselbergs, does. But don't worry: maintaining a site, these days, is not a very expensive hobby. It only comes down to a lot of effort. And fortunately there are other members of the Wado community sharing the effort.
